Turning the Other Cheek: Sermon Audio

Concluding our series on The Sermon on the Mount, we come to what may be the most challenging of all the commandments of Jesus. Turning the other cheek and loving our enemies doesn’t come easy. So, what are we to do with these difficult passages?

Hospitable and Then Some: Sermon Audio

In a follow-up to last week’s sermon, we explore what it means to be salt and light in the world today. It starts with a focus on Christian hospitality that flows from the heart of God that “so loved the world.” This recording also includes a bit of my testimony. And yes, this Christian pastor was an atheist.

You Are Salt and Light: Sermon Audio

In The Sermon on the Mount from Matthew 5, Jesus calls us “the salt of the earth” and “the light of the world”. Have we these phrases to the point where they are meaningless cliche or can we reclaim these descriptions in a meaningful way?

Blessed and Then Some: Sermon Audio

When we consider the way Jesus uses the word “blessed” in The Sermon on the Mount from Matthew 5, what does it really mean to be blessed? Maybe it’s more than we think. Many have come to hear Jesus and he takes his place as a rabbi among them. He begins by pronouncing a blessing on those who have gathered. Could it be that Jesus has a different idea about blessing than we do?

“With my elbows on the old table, my chin in my hands, my pencil in my fingers, the lights of the city below and beyond… I fell in love with the craft of writing. I learned not to chase the words but to listen for them.”

Mustard Seed Faith: Sermon Audio

How much faith is enough? What is the threshold one must reach to impact one’s circumstances? Some would say that if we just had enough faith, then we would all be healthy, wealthy, and wise. However, our experience of life tells us otherwise. When Jesus talks about “mustard seed” faith, what does he mean?

A Mother’s Love: Sermon Audio

What do Mother’s Day and Ascension Sunday have to do with each other? For many of us, the first way we experience unconditional love, is through our mothers. Can this be an image of Christ’s love for us and an image of who we are to be as the body of Christ?
